A new joint venture was formed on October 22, 2015 between Roxas & Company, Inc. and Sigma Xynergies Corporation, to build a new integrated coconut processing plant in Tupi, South Cotabato.
The new P881-M facility will be the first of its kind in the country, allowing for the integrated processing of coconuts into high quality, high value coconut products. The new facility will utilize latest technology, proprietary processes, and cutting-edge equipment. It is designed to process 300 metric tons of coconuts per day, at full capacity. The facility will produce a variety of coconut products, including coconut cream and milk, virgin coconut oil, and coconut water concentrate.
The new joint venture aims to sell high-quality coconut products, primarily in the international market. The Philippines is currently the second biggest exporter of coconuts and coconut products in the world and this joint venture is expected to strengthen and even improve this position. This enterprise also sees new jobs and business opportunities for the many communities in Tupi, its neighboring towns, and South Cotabato as a whole. Some of the strategic reasons why Tupi was chosen as the location for the processing plant are due to its abundant supply of good quality coconuts, its friendly business and political environment, and excellent infrastructure facilities and accessibility.
The new coconut processing facility is scheduled to start commercial operations in the first quarter of 2017.
